State Rep. Darren Bailey (R-Xenia) wants to make sure that local gun dealers and Second Amendment rights activists have their say when it comes to newly proposed rules for gun sales issued by the Illinois State Police (ISP).

“Last week the state police filed their proposed rules for the new gun dealer licensing law,” Bailey said in a press release. “This is the chance for small businesses and Illinois residents who are interested in the Second Amendment to express their opinions about the rules and regulations within the next 45 days,” he added of the public comment period, which is now underway.

The proposed rules changes have already appeared in the Illinois Register that was published earlier this month. None of the recommendations are final yet and could change before all is said and done when the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) takes action on them. All comments are to be directed in writing to Matthew R. Rentschler, Chief Legal Counsel Illinois State Police, 801 S. Seventh St., Suite 1000-S, Springfield, IL 62703.

JCAR is a bipartisan, 12-member legislative oversight committee created by the General Assembly more than four decades ago that is authorized ”to conduct systematic reviews of administrative rules promulgated by State agencies,” Bailey's release states.

Bailey’s 109th District includes all or portions of Clay, Edwards, Effingham, Jasper, Lawrence, Richland, Wabash, Wayne and White counties.
