Illinois state Rep. Darren Bailey, R-Xenia, wants to keep the $1,500 transportation grants now available to visit the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum (ALPLM) in Springfield on the minds of area teachers.
“These grants are intended for our teachers and schools who may need a little financial help to make a field trip to the Lincoln Library and Museum possible,” Bailey said in a press release of the grants that must be applied for by mid-October and can be used all the way up to December 2020. “This Presidential Museum is a great opportunity for students to see documents, photographs and other materials first-hand to help bring our history to life and complement what they learn from books.”
The grants are largely made possible through support from the Winnick Family Foundation and are available to students in grades 4-12. Grants cover transportation costs for public and private schools with a low-income enrollment of greater than 30 percent.
