Edwards County Community Unit School District 1 Board of Education met Aug. 19.

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. in the West Salem Grade School Jr. High Science Room by President, Dale Woods. The following members were present: Jayare Buerster, Brian Mewes, Richard Wolfe, Lawrence Speir, Jr., and Andrew Spray. Also present were Superintendent, David Cowger; Principals, Preston Nelson and Dale Schmittler and Special Education Coordinator, Carrie Wells. Board member Jo Rector was absent.
Motion was made by Andrew Spray and seconded by
Richard Wolfe to approve the following Consent Agenda items:

Motion to destroy board meeting closed session audio recording older than 18 months per State code

Motion was made by Richard Wolfe and seconded by Andrew Spray to approve the minutes of the July 15, 2019 open and closed sessions.

Discussion was held regarding district goals
Motion was made by Brian Mewes and seconded by Jayare Buerster to approve District Goals as presented.
Board Goals that were developed during the goal meeting session on August 7th can be obtained in the District Office. The administration and board will be striving towards successful completion of the developed goals throughout this school year.

Motion was made by Richard Wolfe and seconded by Andrew Spray to approve ECHS Auto Curriculum additions.
The curriculum will include the following classes: Transportation Technology, Beginning Automotive Services, Automotive Technician I and II, Diesel Mechanics, Small Engine Repair I & II

Motion was made by Andrew Spray and seconded by Richard Wolfe to approve the Tentative Fiscal Year 2020 Budget.
There is still revenue data that we have not received from ISBE so the tentative budget is a rough projection. The overall budget was $43,433 in the black while the operating budget was $70,379 in the red.

Motion was made by Richard Wolfe and seconded by Jayare Buerster to move the September Board Meeting to Thursday, September 19, 2019
The board meeting date was moved to allow for at least 30 days from the approval of the tentative budget to the adoption of the FY 20 budget.
Motion was made by Brian Mewes and seconded by Andrew Spray to set a Budget Hearing for September 19, 2019 at 6:45 p.m.

Motion was made by Andrew Spray and seconded by Jayare Buerster to approve a donation over $500, a donation to the AGS Softball Team in the amount of $2,500.00

Motion was made by Brian Mewes and seconded by Richard Wolfe that a Closed Session be called at 7:37 p.m. to discuss the following:
Consider the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees of the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee to determine validity
Collective negotiating matters between the public body and its employees
Discussion regarding probable or imminent litigation
