Carmi Emmanuel United Methodist Church issued the following announcement on Feb. 10.
Scripture: Matthew 5:13-16
Message: Salt and Light
Pastor: Scott Baird
The teaching of the salt and light came along before the Beatitudes, which tell us what we should be to be the salt and light of the world.
Salt was used for purification. Salt wasused to signify cleansing and purity. Our purpose is to be the salt that purifies the world. Due to the fact that Christ and His Kingdom dwells within us as Christians, be the salt.
Can salt lose its saltiness? Yes, natural salt can and it is casted out. But we have a different saltiness. It testifies our true relationship with Jesus Christ and if we stay loyal we will never lose it. A person who loses his flavor is worse off than one who has never known Christ.
Grasp the seriousness of what you should be if you are a true believer of Jesus Christ. Have salt in yourself for purification of our earth.
We are also called to spread the light of the world. Christ alone is The Light of the world. If Christ is lifted up He will drive out the darkness in our lives. He is the source and we reflect His light. The light not only showed in Him but it came out. We reflect that light when it’s within us. We can light ourselves.
Salt is for corruption and the light is for salvation to shine out. Take the light. Christ is in us and Christ is that light. We have a duty that makes us a light for the darkness in the world.
It is difficult if we don’t know our way. Those blinded by the darkness don’t know how to get out of the darkness. The light drives out all the darkness and shadows.
Without salt and light we have no purpose. Be the light in all houses and to those all around you. Live out the Beatitudes and bear the presence of Christ within you.
All of God makes His home within us. How can we not shine from within? When we are the salt and the light great things will happen to glorify our Father in Heaven. If you truly are a believer you will have the salt and light.
Take your light and go light the world and the salt to purify their souls. If we truly love Christ we can do nothing other.
