City of Carmi City Council met March 3.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

The Carmi City Council met Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Room of the Municipal Building, 225 East Main Street.

Prior to opening the council meeting, Mayor Pollard asked Alderman Winkleman to give the invocation followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Mayor Pollard presided with the following Aldermen present: Steve Winkleman, Mark W. Blake, Tracy Nelson, James Totten, Jeremy Courson, Sheila Jo Headlee, Mike Knight, and Doug Hays.

The minutes from the February 18, 2020, council meeting were presented. Motion was made by Alderman Hays and seconded by Alderman Courson to approve the minutes as presented. The motion carried on roll call by each Alderman present answering “yes.”

For council consideration, discussion, and possible approval

The pay request for White Technologies Inc. for $74,500 for the Waste Water Treatment Plant project was presented. They will be doing the vacuum dewatering beds filter media replacement at the Sewer Plant. Once the payment is approved, Greater Wabash Regional Planning Commission will request our share of the grant funds from the Revolving Loan Fund. Alderman Blake made a motion to approve the pay request to White Technologies Inc. for $74,500. The motion was seconded by Alderman Totten. The motion carried on roll call by each Aldermen present answering “yes.”

Reports and/or updates from Mayor Pollard

Mayor Pollard reported the City of Carmi in conjunction with Carmi Township will be having a March Madness clean-up day on March 28, 2020. The City dumpsters located at the Street and Alley Department will be open from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Oil, batteries, tires, and appliances with freon will not be accepted. For anyone within the City limits of Carmi unable to get their items to the dumpsters, local volunteers will be available to collect neatly stacked curbside items on March 28, 2020. The items should be curbside no later than 8:00 a.m. For curb collection, you are asked to call City Hall at 618-384-2001 to request a pickup. The deadline to do this is March 19th. Only approved items, stacked neatly at the curb, will be picked up. The City Yard Waste Site will be open normal hours on that Saturday, 8:00 a.m. until noon.

Reports from Standing Committees

Alderman Hays reported he would not be at the next council meeting due to a conflicting work meeting. Alderman Winkleman asked if the plastic recycling is being utilized. Mayor Pollard stated it has been used quite a bit.

Adjournment

At 5:36 p.m. Alderman Winkleman made a motion to adjourn. Motion was seconded by Alderman Courson. The motion carried on roll call by each Alderman present answering “yes.”
