Obituary
Pleas Furlong, Jr, age 88, of Harrisburg, passed away at 8:00 AM, Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at Carrier Mills Nursing Home.
Pleas was born on March 8, 1932, in Saline County, Illinois, to the late Pleas and Margie (Layman) Furlong, Sr. On December 7, 1956, he married Oneda Prather and she survives in Harrisburg. Pleas worked for Sahara Coal Company and was a farmer. He enjoyed raising a large garden. Pleas loved his family and was especially fond of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Oneda, Pleas is survived by two children, son, Michael Furlong and wife, Robbie, of Harrisburg; daughter, Lisa Johnson and husband Steve of Mt. Vernon; granddaughter, Brandi Jones and husband Jarus of Carbondale; granddaughter, Michelle Reeves and husband, Tony of Mt. Vernon; granddaughter, Ashton Lee of Edwardsville; great grandchildren: Everly and Blaze Reeves of Mt. Vernon; Grayson and Lofton Jones of Carbondale; and several nieces and nephews.
Pleas was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Janet Furlong; sisters, Velma and Mary; brothers, John, Bill, Luke, Hubert, Bob and Lowell; half-brothers, Freeman, Carl and Charlie.
Private family graveside services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to Bankston Fork Baptist Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, envelopes will be available at the cemetery.
