After the Illinois Department of Public Health gave the OK for elective surgeries to return, the Harrisburg Medical Center started the procedures on May 12, the Harrisburg Register reported.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the medical center was focusing on protecting patients from potential exposure, which is why elective surgeries were halted in Illinois, the Harrisburg Register reported on May 29. But after the state began reopening and more precautionary measures were taken, Harrisburg Medical Center was allowed to resume elective surgeries.
Operating and recovery rooms are seeing increased measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and policies are changing to ensure staff and patient safety, the Harrisburg Register reported.
The Harrisburg Medical Center is following instructions from the Illinois Department of Public Health to ensure the hospital is up to standards, including having adequate personal protective equipment and support services, the Harrisburg Register reported.
Any patients who have elective surgery are being tested for the coronavirus days before their surgery is scheduled as a safety measure, the Harrisburg Register reported. Anyone who enters the hospital will be required to wear a face mask, which will be provided to those who don't have one.
