Chicago (55,226 cases) and Cook County (40,331 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,683, while Cook County recorded 2,042 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 1,982,982, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 40 to 49, with 26,633 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 72,590 were male and 78,554 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 3,887, while female deaths stood at 3,293.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,199 Asians, 3,199 whites, 1,990 African-Americans, 1,482 Hispanics, and 173 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
