Chicago (56,190 cases) and Cook County (41,024 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,707, while Cook County recorded 2,043 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 2,122,607, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 27,615 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 74,472 were male and 80,662 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 3,919, while female deaths stood at 3,326.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,235 Asians, 3,235 whites, 1,999 African-Americans, 1,499 Hispanics, and 172 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
