Chicago (58,080 cases) and Cook County (42,715 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,743, while Cook County recorded 2,067 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 2,388,193, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 29,821 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 78,531 were male and 85,452 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 3,980, while female deaths stood at 3,382.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,279 Asians, 3,279 whites, 2,027 African-Americans, 1,534 Hispanics, and 177 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
