Chicago (61,205 cases) and Cook County (44,926 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,786, while Cook County recorded 2,102 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 2,739,377, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 33,137 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 84,697 were male and 92,593 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,046, while female deaths stood at 3,452.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,347 Asians, 3,347 whites, 2,059 African-Americans, 1,563 Hispanics, and 178 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
