Chicago (62,145 cases) and Cook County (45,599 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,793, while Cook County recorded 2,109 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 2,849,395, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 34,066 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 86,672 were male and 94,749 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,069, while female deaths stood at 3,470.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,377 Asians, 3,377 whites, 2,064 African-Americans, 1,567 Hispanics, and 179 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
