Chicago (62,807 cases) and Cook County (46,343 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,800, while Cook County recorded 2,112 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 2,937,749, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 34,926 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 88,361 were male and 96,680 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,098, while female deaths stood at 3,490.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,401 Asians, 3,401 whites, 2,071 African-Americans, 1,572 Hispanics, and 189 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
