Chicago (63,124 cases) and Cook County (46,878 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,807, while Cook County recorded 2,113 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 2,984,618, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 35,466 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 89,331 were male and 97,754 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,111, while female deaths stood at 3,497.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,413 Asians, 3,413 whites, 2,073 African-Americans, 1,575 Hispanics, and 190 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
