Chicago (63,577 cases) and Cook County (47,288 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,808, while Cook County recorded 2,116 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 3,032,634, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 35,948 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 90,310 were male and 98,924 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,124, while female deaths stood at 3,502.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,424 Asians, 3,424 whites, 2,078 African-Americans, 1,576 Hispanics, and 191 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
