Chicago (64,356 cases) and Cook County (48,128 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,812, while Cook County recorded 2,121 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 3,147,703, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 36,999 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 92,238 were male and 101,167 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,138, while female deaths stood at 3,514.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,441 Asians, 3,441 whites, 2,084 African-Americans, 1,581 Hispanics, and 188 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
