Chicago (64,611 cases) and Cook County (48,433 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,812, while Cook County recorded 2,122 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 3,189,801, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 37,375 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 93,016 were male and 101,989 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,146, while female deaths stood at 3,521.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,452 Asians, 3,452 whites, 2,084 African-Americans, 1,583 Hispanics, and 190 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
