Chicago (64,994 cases) and Cook County (48,794 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,817, while Cook County recorded 2,126 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 3,235,807, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 37,780 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 93,907 were male and 102,900 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,157, while female deaths stood at 3,534.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,466 Asians, 3,466 whites, 2,088 African-Americans, 1,586 Hispanics, and 192 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
