Chicago (65,484 cases) and Cook County (49,240 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,822, while Cook County recorded 2,129 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 3,285,348, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 38,327 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 94,951 were male and 104,032 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,168, while female deaths stood at 3,549.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,479 Asians, 3,479 whites, 2,093 African-Americans, 1,591 Hispanics, and 192 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
