Chicago (65,801 cases) and Cook County (49,543 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,823, while Cook County recorded 2,130 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 3,329,762, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 38,725 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 95,761 were male and 104,985 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,170, while female deaths stood at 3,552.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,482 Asians, 3,482 whites, 2,094 African-Americans, 1,591 Hispanics, and 193 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
