Republican state House candidate Lisa Ciampoli plans to have the same voice she’s always used once she arrives in Springfield.
“As a fiscal conservative, I oppose the tax hike amendment that would give more money and power to Springfield politicians like Speaker Mike Madigan, Ciampoli said. “On the county board, I worked to keep taxes low, while Chicago Democrats in Springfield were working to hike taxes over and over.”
Running against incumbent state Rep. Katie Stuart in the 112th District, Ciampoli has long been an opponent of the progressive tax proposal now being pushed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker as a measure that will only mean higher rates for the state’s most affluent residents. The governor recently pumped upwards of $50 million of his own money into a ballot initiative aimed at getting it over the finish line. To pass, the measure requires approval from 60% of those who vote on the issue or a majority of those who vote in the election overall is needed for passage.
“Illinoisans have had enough of Springfield’s high taxes,” she recently posted on Facebook. “Remember that my opponent has proven time and again that she will only support the views of her colleagues in Chicago and Springfield. It’s time we have a voice that represents Southern Illinois and its values.”
An anesthesiologist by trade, Ciampoli recently earned the endorsement of the National Federation of Independent Businesses Illinois PAC, with State Director Mark Gant praising her as someone who "understands the challenges facing Illinois' small businesses and will do everything she can to create and maintain an environment where small businesses can grow and create jobs."
