Newly-elected republican state Rep. Paul Jacobs is urging conservatives to remember who they are in the face of all the chaos now gripping Washington.

“Conservatives are constitutionalist,” Jacobs said in the wake of a group of angry protestors storming the Capitol on the day Joe Biden was certified as president elect. By the time all the carnage had quieted, at least four people were dead.

Authorities said one woman and two men suffered “medical emergencies” and later died and another woman was shot and killed during a standoff with Capitol Police after protesters breached the building and sought to take over as lawmakers scurried for cover.

“Watching the events unfold today at the United States Capitol saddened me greatly,” Jacobs added. “I do not condone the actions of violent protesters storming our Capital placing elected officials, their staffs, Capitol police and first respondents, and now National Guard in danger. Cooler heads must prevail.”

By the end of the day, the entire National Guard, along with other branches of law enforcement that included the Federal Protective Service, Secret Service, Virginia National Guard, and Arlington, Virginia, Police Department, had been activated to provide protection to the area. Later in the day, lawmakers returned to session and in the early hours of the next morning formally ratified Biden’s election.

Jacobs, who bagged nearly 78% of the vote in his runaway win in the 115th District, said justice needs to come fast and forcefully.

“We must understand who these violent actors are and bring them to justice,” he said. “We believe in the right to peaceful protest. Conservatives do not storm buildings or riot and cause damage and mayhem.
