City of Carmi City Council Met Jan. 19.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

The Carmi City Council met at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Room of the Municipal Building, 225 East Main Street.

Prior to opening the council meeting, Mayor Pollard asked Alderman Winkleman to give the invocation followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Mayor Pollard presided with the following Aldermen present: Steve Winkleman, Mark W. Blake, Tracy Nelson, James Totten, Sheila Headlee, Jeremy Courson, Mike Knight, and Doug Hays.

The minutes from the January 5, 2021, council meeting were presented. Motion was made by Alderman Knight and seconded by Alderman Totten to approve the minutes as presented. The motion carried on roll call by each Alderman present answering “yes.”

The December 2020 Financial Reports for the City of Carmi and Light & Water Departments were presented for approval. Alderman Headlee made a motion to approve the December 2020 Financial Reports for the City of Carmi and Light & Water Departments. The motion was seconded by Alderman Winkleman. The motion carried on roll call by each Alderman present answering “yes.”

The January 2021 vendor invoices for the City of Carmi and Light & Water Departments were presented for approval. Alderman Winkleman made a motion to approve and authorize the January 2021 vendor invoices for the City of Carmi and Light & Water Departments. The motion was seconded by Alderman Blake. The motion carried on roll call by each Alderman present answering “yes.”

For council consideration, discussion, and possible approval

Clerk Cynthia Attebury presented the Symetra Stop Loss Insurance for the plan period of February 1, 2021 to January 31, 2022. Mrs. Attebury presented the following information:

●  The annual premium was a 4% or $11,000 annual premium increase to maintain the current risk level which is a stop loss deductible for claims over $50,000.

●  A 2% or $23,000 annual reduction to city liability for all claims under $50,000.

●  Net result is a maximum plan cost reduction of about $5,000.

After a brief discuss, Alderman Headlee made a motion to approve the renewal of the Symetra Stop Loss Insurance Plan for the period of February 1, 2021, to January 31, 2022. The motion was seconded by Alderman Hays. The motion carried on roll call by each Alderman answering “yes.”

Reports and/or updates from Mayor Pollard

Alderman Headlee stated the financials for December fell short about $500,000 but yearly figures showed approximately $1,000,000 under budget. She commended the departments on this accomplishment.

At 5:36 p.m. Alderman Headlee made a motion to adjourn. Motion was seconded by Alderman Courson. The motion carried on roll call by each Alderman present answering “yes.”
