Galatia Community Unit School District 1 Board of Education met June 24.

The budget hearing meeting of the Galatia Community Unit School District No. 1 Board' was held in the boardroom at the Annex. Roll call' was taken, and those present were Tim Pribble, Joy Richey, Bryan McCabe, and Holly Murphy, B.J. Pigg, Elaine Jackson, and Aaron Allen were absent. Four (4) members present and three (3) members absent. Board President, Tim Pribble called the meeting to order at 6:45 p.m. Also present: Superintendent, Shain Crank, HS Principal, Ashley Launius, and Recording Secretary, Michele Hankins. This meeting was during the COVID-19 pandemic.
VISITORS: There were no visitors.
AGENDA: Mrs. Michele Hankins, Treasurer, presented each board member a copy of the final amended budget for FY 2020/2021. Even with the loss of real estate taxes of $691,000, we were able to have a surplus of $339,436.00 at the end of the year. This was due to the ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) and Digital grants provided by the Federal government. The end of the year cash balance was $3,319,827.00. ESSER and Digital Relief grant total expenditures were $333,967.22. There was a total of $160,377.87 in expenses that we would have incurred during the normal school year that were paid with grant money. The rest of the grant expense was for additional supplies due to the COVID-19 pandemic. No deficient plan is needed.
This year with our regular grants and the extra federal grant expenditures totaling more than $750,000, we will be required have a single audit. Donohoo, McNalley & Associates have quoted a price of $9,500.00 for a regular audit and $13,500 for a single audit.
The budget will be voted on in the regular board meeting, on this date, June 24, 2021.
