SIC and RLC Choirs Collaborate for a Spooky Good Concert

Choir

Southeastern Illinois College issued the following announcement on Oct. 7

The Southeastern Illinois College and Rend Lake College Concert Choirs are teaming up to bring the community a spooky good concert on two different nights. Halloween Pops will be coming to the SIC George T. Dennis Visual and Performing Arts Center Lobby Wednesday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m., and to the RLC Theatre Thursday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. Both events are free to the public.

“This will be our second Halloween Pops concert adventure,” said SIC Music Instructor, Cory Garmane. “We are thrilled to be able to bring live music back to our campuses.”

This combined concert, the first of which was held in 2019, provides a unique opportunity for students.

“By combining the two choirs, they get a larger ensemble capable of doing more complex pieces,” said RLC Music Professor Sara Alstat-Sanders. “The students also get to work with multiple directors and accompanists, as well as perform in different locations.”

Garmane added, “It's a fantastic learning and networking experience for the students. And for extra fun, we'll be wearing Halloween costumes during the concert, and we invite the audience to do so as well!”

This year, students will be performing pieces from a wide range of genres. For the more classical music lovers, they are performing "Et In Terra Pax" from Vivaldi's Gloria and "Old Abram Brown" by Benjamin Britten. For the film and musical theater lovers, they will be performing "The Hanging Tree" from the Hunger Games, and medleys from The Nightmare Before Christmas and Little Shop of Horrors.
