City of Harrisburg City Council met Sept. 23.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The Harrisburg City Council met at 8:00 a.m. in the Council Room of  City Hall, Harrisburg, IL. 

Mayor John McPeek called the meeting to order. Mayor John McPeek presided over the meeting  with Commissioners Raymond Gunning, Roger Angelly, Rupert Johnson and Ron Morse  answering roll call.  

Commissioner Raymond Gunning led the group in prayer and Pledge of Allegiance. 

There was an open discussion regarding the job performance of the current Deputy Treasurer.  There was a discussion regarding the new hire. There have been difficulties in the treasurer’s  office and hopefully this will help.  

Commissioner Ron Morse made the motion the City relieve Ms. Debby Bartok of her duties as  Deputy City Treasurer effective September 30, 2021. Additionally, he proposes that she remain  as an employee of the Treasurer’s office until November 30, 2021 with full salary and benefits to  ensure a smooth transition and training for her replacement. A roll call vote was taken with all  present voting yes. Motion carried. 

There was a discussion regarding the salary and job duties for a new Deputy Treasurer. Mrs.  Jackson has extensive education and is a current audit manager. She has a lot of experience. 

Commissioner Ron Morse made the motion to hire Mrs. Alex Jackson as Deputy Treasurer  effective October 04, 2021 contingent on her passing a physical and drug screen. Her salary will be $55,000 annually which is commensurate with her education and experience  as an accountant and audit manager at Kemper CPA group. Seconded by Commissioner Roger  Angelly. A roll call vote was taken with all present voting yes, except Mayor John McPeek  voted no. Motion carried. 

Commissioner Roger Angelly made the motion to adjourn. Seconded by Commissioner  Raymond Gunning. A roll call vote was taken with all present voting yes. Motion carried.
