Edwards County Community Unit School District 1 Board of Education met Aug. 23
Here are the minutes provided by the board:
The meeting was called to order at 8:00 p.m. in the Albion Grade School Gymnasium by President, Dale Woods. The following members were present: Brian Mewes, Jayare Buerster, Lawrence Speir, Jr., Richard Wolfe, Jo Rector and Andrew Spray. Also present was Superintendent, David Cowger; Principal, Dale Schmittler; Assistant Principal/Special Education Coordinator, Carrie Wells and Dean of Students, Joe Rivers. Principal, Preston Nelson was absent.
PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
Discussion was presented by members of the public.
Members of the community expressed their views towards remote learning and the face mask mandates.
DISCUSSION REGARDING RECOGNTIION STATUS AND ISBE CORRECTIVE ACTION PLAN
Discussion was held regarding the District’s recognition status and ISBE corrective action plan requirements.
The District will have 60 days to be in compliance with State Mandates or the District could be subject to a Non Recognized status.
DISCUSSION REGARDING COVID CASES AND
QUARANTINES
Discussion was held regarding COVID cases and quarantines
The District has had several positives cases and many students placed in quarantine due to close contact. Currently, the District has over 200 students in quarantine. Due to students not wearing masks, close contacts are determined by a 6 foot circle versus 3 and the time period 14 days without any other options. When face masks are worn, there are a few more options when looking at quarantine periods.
DISCUSSION REGARDING 2021-2022 BACK TO SCHOOL PLAN
Discussion was held regarding the 2021-2022 Back to School Plan
It was recommended to implement face masks and to follow the IDPH guidelines.
MOTION TO FOLLOW
MASK MANDATE AND BACK TO SCHOOL PLAN
Motion was made by Richard Wolfe and seconded by Jayare Buerster to follow the mask mandate and 2021-2022 Back to School Plan as presented.
This will take effect immediately.
Speir, Wolfe, Buerster, Mewes, and Woods voted yes. Spray and Rector voted no. Motion passes
INTO CLOSED SESSION
Motion was made by Jo Rector and seconded by Andrew Spray that a Closed Session be called at 9:00 p.m. to discuss the following:
• Consider the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees of the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee to determine validity
• Consider student discipline
Speir, Rector, Wolfe, Buerster, Spray, Mewes and Woods voted yes. Motion passes
OUT OF CLOSED SESSION
Motion was made by Brian Mewes and seconded by Andrew Spray that the Board come out of Closed Session at 9:37 p.m.
Mewes, Wolfe, Buerter, Spray, Rector, Speir, and Woods voted yes. Motion passes
ADJOURN MEETING
Motion was made by Jo Rector and seconded by Andrew Spray that the meeting be adjourned at 9:44 p.m.
