Illinois Republican state Rep. Adam Niemerg is hosting an in-person and virtual Christmas party as part of his bid for re-election.
The Dec. 16 event will run from 5 to 8 p.m. on Facebook Live and at 105 E Main Street in Teutopolis. Niemerg was sworn into office earlier this year after winning the seat vacated by Darren Bailey, who is now an Illinois state senator, Capitol News Illinois reported.
“Right now, I am so focused on getting the masks removed in schools. I’m so focused on getting vaccine mandates removed in the state of Illinois,” Niemerg told the news outlet. “It’s important we remember our bills regarding the right to life, regarding the Second Amendment, regarding limited taxation.”
In his first term, he co-sponsored HB 0216 that made daylight savings time be year-round standard for the state and HB 0696 that created an income tax deduction for taxpayers and their families.
In October, Niemerg praised retired teachers who stepped up to become substitutes amid pandemic, the East Central Reporter reported.
“Many of our retired teachers actually use their experience to serve as some of our best substitute teachers when our schools need them,” he said at the time. “I say 'thank you' to all of our teachers in Wayne County and around the state.”
He also accused the Illinois High School Association of bullying school districts in relation to mask mandates.
“Everything regarding mask mandates at schools is political,” Niemerg said to SE Illinois News. “It is about control and bullying people into submission. No one pushing for school mask mandates can back up these requirements with actual data. These policies are about control and about the state trying to step in and co-parent our kids.”
While the event is free to the public, any donations will go to Niemerg's re-election campaign, according to the event post on Facebook.
