City of Harrisburg City Council met Dec. 2.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The Harrisburg City Council met at 8:00 a.m. in the Council Room of City Hall, Harrisburg, IL.

Mayor John McPeek called the meeting to order. Mayor John McPeek presided over the meeting with Commissioners Raymond Gunning, Roger Angelly, Rupert Johnson and Ron Morse answering roll call.

Pastor Jerry Wells from Dorrisville Social Brethren Church led the group in prayer and Pledge of Allegiance.

Commissioner Ron Morse made the motion to approve the consent agenda.

Regular Meeting Minutes – November 18, 2021

E.T. Simonds Construction - #121,296.37 – Mill St/Ogara Street Extension #2 Compass Minerals - $5,718.82 - #892351 - MFT

Seconded by Commissioner Raymond Gunning. A roll call vote was taken with all present voting yes. Motion carried.

Jim Williams from William’s and Associates presented council with information regarding the renewal of the liability/auto insurance. He stated the City is with a good company who will advocate for the city.

Commissioner Roger Angelly made the motion to authorize Attorney Kolby Smithpeters to begin diligence and negotiations with Casey’s Corporation office for the property located on West Poplar Street. Seconded by Commissioner Raymond Gunning. A roll call vote was taken with all present voting yes. Motion carried.

A mobile home permit was submitted by Jarrett and Ashely Gifford for 910 Ragan Street. Commissioner Raymond Gunning made the motion to approve the mobile permit as presented. Seconded by Commissioner Roger Angelly. A roll call vote was taken with all present voting yes. Motion carried.

Mayor John McPeek stated council will go into Executive Session to discuss litigation. Mayor John McPeek stated council will go into Executive Session to discuss personnel.

Commissioner Ron Morse made the motion to hire Teri Porter as the new Deputy Treasurer effective December 16, 2021 at $48,000 per year pending the passing of her physical and drug screen. Seconded by Commissioner Raymond Gunning. A roll call vote was taken with all present voting yes. Motion carried.

Commissioner Raymond Gunning stated the Fire Department has answered almost 800 medical/fire calls. He thanked the Police Department for the capture and arrest of the fugitive from Carmi.

Commissioner Roger Angelly announced the former Merit Board president Dan Wilson has passed away. He served on the merit board for many years and did a good job.

Mayor John McPeek announced the upcoming events: December 09, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. is Christmas in the Courtyard with Santa Clause. December 09, 2021 starting at 6:00 p.m. is the Annual Lights Parade. December 10, 2021, there will be a movie night in the auditorium of City Hall which will show two children’s Christmas movies. Please stop littering.

Commissioner Ron Morse made the motion to go into Executive Session to discuss litigation and personnel. Seconded by Commissioner Roger Angelly. A roll call vote was taken with all present voting yes. Motion carried.

Mayor John McPeek made the motion to return to regular session. Seconded by Commissioner Roger Angelly. A roll call vote was taken with all present voting yes. Motion carried.

Mayor John McPeek state no action will be taken regarding litigation or personnel.

Commissioner Roger Angelly made the motion to adjourn. Seconded by Commissioner Raymond Gunning. A roll call vote was taken with all present voting yes. Motion carried.
