Wrapping up a two-day bus tour of Illinois, state Sen. Darren Bailey next points his gubernatorial campaign to Wilmette and Collinsville.

“Friends, we are in a fight for the heart and soul of our state and the Republican Party. It’s evident that the corruption in Springfield isn’t partisan, and we’re all tired of the political elites selling out working families and taxpayers,” Bailey wrote in a Facebook post.

He called for a change from the ideas of incumbent Gov. J.B. Pritzker and continued his push to move his campaign forward, calling for support on circulating the petition to put his name on the ballot and officially begin his journey toward governor.

“We have raised money from donors who have  indicated they not only want to take on extreme Democrats, but they want to take on RINOs,” Bailey said, adding that he also plans on challenging Republicans who have “sold out” working families and conservative principles and voted to raise taxes.

“This is the only way we can reform Springfield and restore Illinois,” Bailey added.

In December, Bailey revealed his running mate for this gubernatorial campaign would be former talk show host Stephanie Trussell, according to the East Central Reporter. That announcement came as Bailey was making his rounds across the state on the bus tour and a at a fundraiser stop in Swansea.

The Collinsville Meet and Greet will take place on Feb. 5 at 203 W Main St. The free event will include barbecue, drinks and live music for those who attend.

The campaign is set to hold a similar event in Wilmette at 340 Ridge Rd. Saturday.
