Illinois state Rep. Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) is disappointed in legislation that would bring about a what many are calling a totalitarian attitude towards the unvaccinated that could include taking “any means necessary” to control public health crises.
The bill – HB 4640 – has been roundly criticized for its authoritarian tone. It is sponsored by state Rep. Deb Conroy (D-Villa Park).
“It is hard to fathom that we are even debating legislation like this," Niemerg told SE Illinois News. "The idea that government employees can have total access to our health information should be rejected on its face as the obvious intrusion on our privacy that it is."
Conroy’s bill would allow the state to "isolate or quarantine persons who are unable or unwilling to receive vaccines, medications, or other treatments." It would give local health departments and state legislators explicit legal authority to entirely regulate the behavior of anyone who does not obey their COVID-19 limitations and rules, including isolating and incarcerating them.
“I hope this legislation serves as a vehicle to get the public motivated to reject the policies of the far left," Niemerg said. "Our rights and liberties are being threatened every single day. There does not seem to be any end to the lengths the progressive left will go to exercise control over our daily lives. We have to take these threats seriously and we have to fight back."
According to the text, local health departments can "adopt any rules" that are necessary, which could include internment-like camps, which are popular in Australia right now, where those deemed a risk can be arrested and transported to "isolation camps" where they are locked in rooms and fed once a day.
While the camps are not considered prisons, three camp escapees were notably "captured" recently near Howard Springs.
“Illinois will become just as oppressive and intrusive as the Australian government if this legislation becomes law. I am 100% committed to stopping House Bill 4640,” Niemerg said.
Conroy is a candidate for chairman of the Board of Commissioners of DuPage County.
Niemerg has been a steadfast opponent to Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s COVID-19 protocols.
Pritzker’s executive overreach has been noted by many, and a growing number of schools districts have been winning legal battles as the judicial branch has routinely sided with parents disallowing Pritzker from punishing schools for allowing mask and vaccine choice.
“If this legislation becomes law, some government employee could show up at your door simply because you have not been vaccinated," Niemerg said. "This is scary stuff. We cannot surrender our rights. We need the people of Illinois to take a stand against the tyrannical left."
