Senator and gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey (R-Louisville) announced a bus tour through Illinois from March 1-16. Bailey and his running mate Stephanie Trussell were to start the tour in Shelbyville and wrap up in McLeansboro, according to the flier announcing the tour.
In a statement on Facebook, the campaign said, "Friends, please share our flyer, tag your friends, and join us at a stop near you. We’re going to take back our Republican Party and save our state from the political elites who have abandoned working families and taxpayers. #standingwithyouin2022 #baileytrussell2022 #firepritzker #restoreillinois #baileyforillinois"
Bailey's campaign has been running in opposition to the agenda of current Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker. Bailey has promised to repeal all of Pritzker's mandates and to allow parents to make decisions for their own families.
In December, Bailey announced the selection of Trussell as his pick for lieutenant governor after a 2-day bus tour.
Recently, Bailey has spoken in support of legislation that bars public universities in the state from using standardized testing scores on admissions applications. He suggested it would allow universities to do their own testing of students.
According to Bailey's government website, he was "born and raised in Louisville, Illinois. Attended North Clay Unit #25 schools and earned an A.A.S. in Agricultural Production from Lake Land College in Mattoon. Owner/Operator of a family farm in Clay and surrounding counties growing corn, soybeans, and wheat."
