Senator Dale Fowler sponsored a bill that will ensure funding will go toward the 99-year-old Du Quoin State Fair.

Du Quoin State Fair has hosted various national car shows and races, rodeos, livestock shows, reunions, to name a few events.

“The Du Quoin State Fair, which will mark its 100th birthday next summer, is rich in tradition and a huge asset to the southern Illinois region,” Fowler said. “To ensure future success and financial stability for this fair, it is important that we recognize that this state fair is equally as important as the Illinois State Fair in Springfield. Both fairs have a tremendous impact on Illinois’ economy, bringing millions of dollars and thousands of people through the gates each year.”

The event has continued to garner attention over the years.

In 2021, the Du Quoin State Fair had its highest attendance in five years, and made a record amount of money, according to KFVS12. More than 150,000 individuals visited the fair this year, which is up 22% from 2019, and the largest number in five years, the news station reports.

Senate Bill 3482 was initially filed by Sen. Patrick J. Joyce on Jan. 19. Fowler was added as chief co-sponsor of the bill on Jan. 31. The bill would allow funds from the operations and use of the Illinois State Fair, Springfield State Fairgrounds, the DuQuoin State Fair and the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds to be deposited in the Illinois State Fair Fund. The bill moved to the House in early February.

The 2022 DuQuoin State Fair will be held Aug. 26 to Sept. 5 and will include a variety of events, livestock shows and exhibits to explore.
