Mrs. Harrelson presented the Superintendent’s Report; Act of God days will not be approved in the future by the state superintendent of schools. ISBE is saying E-Learning days should be used instead. New Hope will use their 5 emergency days and then switch to E-Learning, if needed. Area school administrators and board members met at The Landing at the request from FCHS. The high school wanted to discuss possible consolidation. They provided brochures showing possible savings. FCHS stated they have had questions regarding consolidation from the public. No other district reported inquiries. In a legal update, the temporary restraining order approved is really a case of parents and students against masking and employees against vaccination and testing. The judge threw out the classification that would cover other districts in the state. Circuit court judge rulings cannot be applied statewide but the appellate court’s ruling will apply statewide. During one of many webinars held after the TRO ruling, over 300 districts say masking decisions should be kept local but only approximately 65 districts stated there was no going back. Attorneys are telling districts that this is our time to fight. In student recognitions, Kiam Bladel was recognized for his Hear the Music drawing for the St. Louis Philharmonic contest. His drawing was 1 of 100 selected to participate in their traveling art museum throughout St. Louis. He will be recognized on April 6th at the awards ceremony held at Powell Hall. Kamden Vaughan placed 3rd in the Wayne County Spelling Bee. Grady Simpson and Will Lewis have been selected for the Illinois Principal Association recognition breakfast. The carpet in the 3rd grade classroom is showing some wear, has many stains, and is bubbling in some areas. The board agreed to move forward with estimates for replacement.
