Village of Smithton Committee as a Whole met March 8.
Here are the minutes provided by the committee:
Mayor Smallwood called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm at Village Hall. Trustees Becherer, Rogers, Elbe, Henning, Mourey, and Hopkins were in attendance.
JR FRENTZEL
Mr. Frentzel was not in attendance for the meeting. The Board discussed Frentzel’s plan. Mayor Smallwood will contact Frentzel with the Boards concerns and questions. They will ask him to attend a Committee as a Whole meeting to discuss his plan further.
VIDEO GAMING FEES
A suggestion was made to have the machine operators pay half of the fees set by the Village. Mayor Smallwood will talk with Attorney Durso.
WILLOW OAK PROPERTY
The Board agreed to have Engineer Saeger inform Mr. Baldwin that the Village Attorney is drafting a new agreement for the Trustees to review at the next Committee As a Whole meeting.
PROPERTY APPRAISAL
Everyone has received a copy of the appraisal. The Board agreed to have Mayor Smallwood contact the owner and let him know that we aren’t interested in the property at this time.
WATER RATES
We received notice that SLM/FSH will be increasing their water rates. The Board discussed and proposed that our water rate would increase by 45 cents.
BUDGET
An updated version of the budget was distributed and discussed. The Board members will review and continue to discuss.
604 N. MAIN
The company that will be doing the sidewalk in front of the new grocery store has given us a bid to do the sidewalk in front of the property next to the grocery store (604 N. Main). The bid we received was $7217. The bid was discussed.
SAA/PARK BUILDING
Adding an additional overhang to the park building was handled at the last regular Board meeting.
PART TIME POLICE OFFICER
Chad Harris, who works for Alton Southern Railroad as a Police Officer has agreed to work the days that Officer Jeremy Hayes doesn’t work as a Resource Officer at the Smithton Grade School. They are both taking Resource Officer classes to be certified. Officer Harris will also be available to work as a Part Time Officer if needed here in Smithton.
SEWER JETTER
We have a jetter that the Public Works Department will no longer be needing since there will be one on on the newly purchased vacuum truck. It was agreed to do the necessary steps to get this piece of equipment sold.
Trustee Rogers made a motion which was seconded by Trustee Becherer to adjourn. All were in favor. Motion was granted. Meeting adjourned at 9:40 pm.
