Minutes of the Special Meeting of the Board of Education of Fairfield Public School District No. 112, Wayne County, Illinois, held in the District Board Room, 200 West Center, Fairfield, Illinois.

AGENDA #1 – Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 P.M. by President Amy Sager, who directed the Secretary to call the roll.

AGENDA #2 – Roll Call

The Secretary called the roll and the following members answered to their names as called and were found to be present:

Angie Koontz, Shane Neuman, Dan Coomer, Amy Sager, Jason McCulley, Heather Trent

Members absent: Jessica Oliver

There being a quorum present, the President declared the Board of Education to be in session for the transaction of business.

OTHERS PRESENT: Kristina Gardner, North Side Principal; April Smith, Center Street Principal; Rhonda Clark, Center Street Assistant Principal/Tech Coordinator

AGENDA #3 – Closed Session to Discuss Student Discipline (5ILCS 120/2a)

3.1A motion was made by member Dan Coomer that the Board enter Closed Session at the hour of 6:00 P.M. The motion was seconded by member Shane Neuman, and on a roll call vote the following members voted yea:

Angie Koontz, Shane Neuman, Dan Coomer, Amy Sager, Jason McCulley, Heather Trent

Members Absent: Jessica Oliver

The President declared the motion passed.

3.2A motion was made by member Shane Neuman that the Board end the Closed Session at the hour of 6:30 P.M. The motion was seconded by member Heather Trent, and on a roll call vote the following members voted yea:

Angie Koontz, Shane Neuman, Dan Coomer, Amy Sager, Jason McCulley, Heather Trent

Members Absent: Jessica Oliver

The President declared the motion passed.

AGENDA #4 – Action Items

4.1A motion was made by member Shane Neuman that the Board find that student number 2022556 did commit the offenses of which he has been accused: for making a threatening statement about bringing a gun to school, shooting up the school and stating that he would aim at specific teachers. The motion was seconded by member Dan Coomer, and on a roll call vote the following members voted yea:

Angie Koontz, Shane Neuman, Dan Coomer, Amy Sager, Heather Trent

The following member abstained from voting: Jason McCulley

Members Absent: Jessica Oliver

The President declared the motion passed.

4.2A motion was made by member Amy Sager that student number 2022556 be expelled from school for having committed a violation of school rules of making threats for the remainder of the 2021 – 2022 school year beginning March 31, 2022 and the complete academic school year for 2022 – 2023. During the time of expulsion, the student will not be allowed: (1) on school grounds; (2) to attend any school sponsored events; and (3) the right to represent the school in any selected, elected, or appointed capacity. The motion was seconded by member Shane Neuman, and on roll call vote the following members voted yea:

Angie Koontz, Shane Neuman, Dan Coomer, Amy Sager, Heather Trent

The following member abstained from voting: Jason McCulley

Members Absent: Jessica Oliver

The President declared the motion passed.

AGENDA #5 – Adjournment – A motion was made by member Shane Neuman that the meeting adjourn at 7:16 P.M. The motion was seconded by member Heather Trent, and on a roll call vote the following members voted yea:

Angie Koontz, Shane Neuman, Dan Coomer, Amy Sager, Jason McCulley, Heather Trent

Members Absent: Jessica Oliver

The President declared the motion passed.
