In a Monday tweet, Illinois Sen. Darren Bailey (R-Louisville) reiterated his support for the Second Amendment.
In the same tweet, Bailey discussed other activities, such as his run for governor of Illinois and a visit to the KAM shooting range in Morton.
Gun rights are one of many areas in which Bailey criticizes Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, in addition to the economy and education.
"Cindy and I visited KAM Shooting Sports in Morton today," Bailey said in his tweet. "I support the Second Amendment and will always stand up and fight to defend your freedoms. #standingwithyouin2022 #baileytrussell2022 #baileyforillinois #firepritzker #RestoreIllinois"
Bailey doubled down on his support for firearms by raffling off weapons as a part of his gubernatorial campaign.
"Friends, help fuel our movement to reform Springfield and restore Illinois and enter to win one of these great guns," Bailey said in a tweet last week. "Winners will be drawn tomorrow at our event from 2-4 PM. You do not have to be present to win."
Bailey regularly takes to social media to discuss gun rights. Last year on Facebook he advocated for getting rid of the state's Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) cards.
"The FOID Card is not necessary and serves no purpose," Bailey said in an August Facebook post. "Honest Illinoisans should not be jumping through hoops and putting their families and personal information at risk to exercise their God-given right to protect themselves and their families. This is yet another failure of the Pritzker Administration. It's time to #FirePritzker and #VoidTheFoid so we can restore freedom and opportunities to Illinoisans through common sense solutions in Springfield! #standingwithyouin2022 #baileyforillinois"
Firearm issues remain a major talking point in Bailey's gubernatorial campaign, and he will appear first on the ballot in the upcoming Republican primary election.
"GOOD NEWS: we're first on the Republican Primary ballot to fire JB Pritzker," Bailey tweeted recently, quoted by the Prairie State Wire. "Thank you so much to everyone who has helped fuel our movement to reform Springfield and restore Illinois!!! #twill."
