Rep. Adam Niemerg (R-Albion) recognized the achievements of the Richland County Middle School state champions in a speech on the House floor in late March.
The Richland County Middle School Cubs had a perfect season, with a 25-0 season after their defeat of Marion in the Class L championship game, according to WSEI. They won 53-38.
On their road to victory, the Cubs defeated Mt. Carmel Junior High School and Flora Floyd Henson Junior High School to take home the championship for Region 8, according to sijhsaa.com.
"In the chamber with us today are the junior high boys from Olney, Illinois, who went undefeated – undefeated, that's pressure, guys – to win the SIJHSAA Class L state championship," Niemerg said in a speech. "Congratulations, guys. Let's give them a round of applause."
As part of the festivities at the Capitol, Niemerg presented House Resolution 772, which celebrated the young basketball players' success. It was unanimously approved on March 29.
