Sen. Dale Fowler (R-Harrisburg) on April 11 posted a remembrance on his website of legislative aide Andy Sisulak that recounted his accomplishments and how his death would leave a hole in the hearts of those who knew him.

"Our hearts are absolutely broken with news of Andy Sisulak's sudden passing. He was the heart and soul of our district operations team, always working to try to make life better for the people of the 59th District," Fowler wrote. "Southern Illinois has lost a dedicated servant and a tireless philanthropist. Andy was incredibly generous with his time, as he spent innumerable hours helping causes that were near to his heart.

"Andy's loss will leave a hole in the lives of so many people in our communities. We were lucky to have known him and to call him a friend. Please keep Andy's friends and family in your prayers,"  Fowler wrote.

An online obituary announced that Sisulak had died following a heart attack on April 9. He was 59. Born in Carbondale, Illinois, he was a member of the Carbondale Community High School Class of 1980. He earned his degree in marketing from the University of Mississippi.

Fowler closed his local offices April 14 so that he and staff members could attend visitation, according to a note posted on the senator's Facebook page.
