Galatia Community Unit School District Number 1 Board of Education met March 24.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The regular meeting of the Galatia Community Unit School District No. 1 Board was held in the boardroom at the Annex. Roll call was taken, and those present were Tim Pribble, Joy Richey, Bryan McCabe, and Holly Murphy. B.J. Pigg, Elaine Jackson, and Aaron Allen were absent. Four (4) members present and three (3) members absent. Board President, Tim Pribble called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

Also present: Superintendent, Shain Crank, HS Principal, Ashley Launius, and Recording Secretary, Michele Hankins.

VISITORS:

There were no visitors.

EXECUTIVE SESSION:

1. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Murphy to enter Executive Session at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity; matters of student discipline or review executive session minutes. McCabe-aye, Murphy-aye, Pribble-aye, and Richey-aye. Four ( 4) ayes, motion carried.

2. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by McCabe to end Executive Session at 9:40 p.m. Pigg-aye, Murphy-aye, Pribble-aye, Richey-aye, Allen-aye, and McCabe-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.

3. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by McCabe to approve the Executive Session minutes. Murphy-aye, Pribble-aye, Pigg-aye, Richey-aye, Allen-aye, and McCabe-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.

Aaron Allen and B.J. Pigg had entered the meeting during Executive Session.

ADDITIONS OR DELETIONS TO AGENDA:

Remove Audit as an agenda item.

APPROVAL OF CONSENT AGENDA:

4. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Pigg to approve the regular meeting minutes of February 24, 2022. Murphy-aye, Pribble-aye, Richey-aye, Pigg-aye, Allen-aye, and McCabe-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.

5. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Allen to approve the bills and payroll as presented. Pigg-aye, Murphy-aye, Pribble-aye, Allen-aye, McCabe-aye, and Richey-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.

6. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Allen to approve the treasurer's report and co-mingled account as presented. Allen-aye, McCabe-aye, Murphy-aye, Pigg-aye, Pribble-aye, and Richey-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.

OLD BUSINESS:

Waste Removal

Bulldog Systems submitted a quote for the next 3 years with a 7% increase each year.

7. A motion was made by Murphy and seconded by Richey to accept the waste removal quote from Bulldog System as presented for 2022/2023, 2022/2024, and 2024/2025 school years. Murphy-aye, McCabe-aye, Richey-aye, Pigg-aye, Allen-aye, and Pribble-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.

Certificate of Deposits

Mrs. Michele Hankins informed the board that certificates of deposits #4428 ($329,395.71) and #1975 ($194,073.70) were renewed on March 10, 2022 with Legence Bank for 6 months at .20%.

NEW BUSINESS:

Field Trips

8. A motion was made by Allen and seconded by McCabe to approve the following field trips:

• Senior Class trip to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. The class will leave the school on May 4 and will return on May 7, 2022.

• 8th-grade class trip to Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana., on May 26, 2022. A special thank you to Mrs. Susan Russell, JH Math teacher, whose daughter is providing tickets for all students to attend for free.

• FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) field trip to Murray State University, Kentucky, either April 1st or April 8th, 2022.

• FBLA field trip to Holiday World in Santa Clause, Indiana, June 1st, 2022.

TRS Supplemental Savings Plan (SSP) Resolution

The TRS supplemental savings plan is a new program we will have to offer the teachers. There is no additional cost to the district.

9. A motion was made by Allen and seconded by McCabe to adopt the TRS Supplemental Savings Plan (SSP) resolution. Murphy-aye, Pigg-aye, McCabe-aye, Richey-aye, Allen-aye, and Pribble-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.

High School Gym Floor

H.E. Mitchell, Inc., looked at the high school gym floor. The floor is too thin to sand down and refinish, in particular areas, the spots are too warped. Mr. Crank asked him to give us a general cost idea. The item was tabled until next month.

BUILDING & GROUNDS REPORT:

Playground: The playground is completed and ready to play on when it dries up. More mulch is needed and will be delivered when we can get it.

HE. Mitchell Construction Management: Today at 3:00 p.m. at the Galatia CUSD #1 Annex, bids were opened for the HV AC, electrical, and High School roof. All bids came in under what was originally contracted.

ATHLETICS:

Renew IHSA Membership for FY23

10. A motion was made by Allen and seconded by Murphy to approve the IHSA Membership for FY 2022-2023. Pigg-aye, Richey-aye, Allen-aye, Pribble-aye, Murphy-aye, and McCabe-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.

EXECUTIVE SESSION MOTIONS:

JH Girls' Basketball Coach

11. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Allen to employ Anna Miller as the junior high girls' basketball coach for the FY 22/23 school year, pending a background check. Pigg-aye, McCabe-aye, Murphy-aye, Richey-aye, Allen-aye, and Pribble-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.

JH Boys' Basketball Coach

12. A motion was made by Murphy and seconded by McCabe to employ Kendall Hankins as the junior high boys' basketball coach for the FY 22/23 school year. Richey-aye, Pigg-aye, Allen-aye, Pribble-aye, Murphy-aye, and McCabe-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.

JH Boys' Assistant Basketball Coach

13. A motion was made by McCabe and seconded by Allen to approve Griffin Groves as the junior high boys' assistant basketball coach for the FY 22/23 school year. Pribble-aye, Richey-aye, Murphy-aye, Pigg-aye, McCabe-aye, and Allen-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.

JH Softball Coach

14. A motion was made by Murphy and seconded by Richey to employ Melissa Shelton as the junior high softball coach for the FY 22/23 school year. Murphy-aye, Pigg-aye, McCabe-aye, Richey-aye, Allen-aye, and Pribble-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.

JH Baseball Coach

15. A motion was made by Allen and seconded by Pigg to employ Tyler Johnson as the junior high boys' baseball coach for the FY 22/23 school year. Murphy-aye, Pigg-aye, McCabe-aye, Richey-aye, Allen-aye, and Pribble-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.

JH Assistant Baseball Coaches

16. A motion was made by Allen and seconded by McCabe to approve Tyler Thompson and Michael Jenkins as the junior high assistant baseball coaches for the FY 22/23 school year. Pigg-aye, McCabe-aye, Murphy-aye, Richey-aye, Allen-aye, and Pribble-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.

JH Volleyball Coach

17. A motion was made by Richey and seconded by Pigg to employ Julia Mattingly as the junior high volleyball coach for the FY 22/23 school year. Richey-aye, Allen-aye, Pribble-aye Murphy-abstain, Pigg-aye, and McCabe-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

JH Cheer Coach

18. A motion was made by Murphy and seconded by McCabe to employ Erica Mapps as the junior high cheer coach for the FY 22/23 school year. Pribble-aye, Richey-aye, Murphy-aye, McCabe-aye, Allen-aye, and Pigg-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.

JH Scholar Bowl Coach

19. A motion was made by Pigg and seconded by Richey to employ Amanda A very as the junior high scholar bowl coach for the FY 22/23 school year. Pribble-aye, Pigg-aye, Richey-aye, Murphy-aye, McCabe-aye, and Allen-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.

JHIHS Bass Cat Fishing Coach

20. A motion was made by McCabe and seconded by Allen to employ B.J. Pigg as the junior high/high school fishing coach for the FY 22/23 school year. Allen-aye, Murphy-aye, Pigg-abstain, McCabe-aye, Richey-aye, and Pribble-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

JHIHS Trap Cat Coach

21. A motion was made by Pigg and seconded by McCabe to employ Justin Quartana as the junior high/high school trap cat coach for the FY 22/23 school year. Murphy-aye, McCabe-aye, Richey-aye, Pigg-aye, Allen-aye, and Pribble-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.

25. A motion was made by Allen and seconded by McCabe to approve Will Pulliam as the high school boy's volunteer JV basketball coach for the FY 22/23 school year. Pribble-aye, Richey-aye, Murphy-aye, McCabe-aye, Allen-aye, and Pigg-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.

31. A motion was made by McCabe and seconded by Murphy to employ Kim Hankins as the high school cross country coach for the FY 22/23 school year. Pribble-aye, Richey-aye, Pigg-aye, Murphy-aye, McCabe-aye, and Allen-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.

HS Cheer Coach

32. A motion was made by Murphy and seconded by Richey to employ Mary Kuczynski as the high school cheer coach for the FY 22/23 school year. Pribble-aye, Richey-aye, Murphy-aye, McCabe-aye, Allen-aye, and Pigg-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.

39. A motion was made by Pigg and seconded by Murphy to employ Stefanie Hefner as an elementary special education teacher for the 2022/2023 school year, per salary schedule, and background check. High School Special Education Teacher

40. A motion was made by Murphy and seconded by Allen to employ Melanie Walters as a high school special education teacher for the 2022/2023 school year, per salary schedule, and background check. Elementary School Teacher

41 . A motion was made by McCabe and seconded by Allen to employ Brett Payne as an elementary teacher for the 2022/2023 school year, per salary schedule, and background check. Pribble-aye, Pigg-aye, Richey-aye, Murphy-aye, McCabe-aye, and Allen-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.

Full-Time Elementary Substitute Teacher

42. A motion was made by Allen and seconded by Murphy to employ Lauren Luce as a full-time elementary substitute teacher for the 2022/2023 school year, per salary schedule, and background check. Pribble-aye, Pigg-aye, Richey-aye, Murphy-aye, McCabe-aye, and Allen-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.

Family and Consumer Science Teacher

43. A motion was made by Richey and seconded by Pigg to employ Ashley Payne as a family and consumer science teacher for the 2022/2023 school year, per salary schedule, and background check. Allen-aye, Murphy-aye, Pigg-aye, McCabe-aye, Richey-aye, and Pribble-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.

Elementary Physical Education Teacher

44. A motion was made by Pigg and seconded by McCabe to employ Jacob Higgins as an elementary physical education teacher for the 2022/2023 school year, per salary schedule, and background check. Murphy-aye, McCabe-aye, Richey-aye, Pigg-aye, Allen-aye, and Pribble-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.

PRINCIPAL REPORT:

Early College Program through SIC: On March 15th, Mrs. Kelsi Love, school counselor, held an orientation meeting for parents of underclassmen. The meeting was well attended, and there was very good feedback from the parents.

Illinois Assessment of Readiness (JAR) Testing was the week of March 14th for grades 3-8. Preliminary Scholastic

Aptitude Test (PSAT) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) will be held on April 13th.

Scholarship Awards Night will be held on May 11th at the high school gym.

Baccalaureate will be held on May 18th at the Galatia First Baptist Church.
