In a recent tweet, Illinois gubernatorial candidate and state Sen. Darren Bailey (R-District 55) shared a link to a piece written by Steve Cortes that called Bailey the "America First leader to replace the disastrous JB Pritzker."
In his own message included with the Cortes link, Bailey pledged to turn Illinois red and put working families and taxpayers first.
"We can and we will," Bailey said in the tweet. "Join our movement to reform Springfield and restore Illinois. It’s time to put working families and taxpayers first. #twill"
Cortes, who describes himself as an "American nationalist" and senior advisor to the 2020 Trump campaign, recently tweeted, "Can Illinois turn red? With the right candidate, yes! My new article on @DarrenBaileyIL as the America First leader to replace the disastrous JB Pritzker. https://amgreatness.com/2022/05/08/a-heartland-battle-for-the-gops-soul/"
Bailey has routinely called himself the only true conservative currently running for the Republican nomination.
“We vote for and support President (Donald) Trump,” he said in a recent Prairie State Newswire report. “We don’t lie. I encourage you to get educated, do your homework and understand what’s going on because we have an amazing state here in Illinois.”
Illinois Family Action has endorsed Bailey.
"For the past several months, IFA staff and board members have been researching the candidates running for state and federal offices in order to make endorsements and/or recommendations to our valued subscribers," the organization said in a recent release. "Through this process, we hope to determine who among the candidates fear God, have a good reputation, love truth, and will govern honestly and righteously.
"After thorough deliberation, the IFA team is thrilled to announce which nominee has our hearty endorsement in the race for governor: State Senator Darren Bailey."
