Village of Smithton Committee as a Whole met May 10.
Here are the minutes provided by the committee:
Mayor Smallwood called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm at Village Hall. Trustees Becherer, Rogers, Elbe, Henning, Mourey, and Hopkins were in attendance. Also in attendance was Mr. Andy Stehl.
PROPERTY APPRAISAL - Renovation of a potential property was discussed. A renovation budget of 1.5 to 1.6 million at a cost of $200 per square foot was stated. Replacing the HVAC and testing for hazardous chemicals and materials was suggested. A full set of architecture drawings is needed as well. The Board will be deliberating this further. Action will be taken at the next regular board meeting.
Mayor Smallwood reported that he received a letter and bill from St. Johns UCC from their sewer backup that occurred a couple of months ago. He stated that the surrounding sewer lines need to be jetted every time before a significant rain. Grease traps at Mi Jalapenos and Walton’s needs to be checked.
Mayor Smallwood has again reached out to Mr. Schilling with Hy-Dac to discuss the state of the property grounds.
Mayor Smallwood reported on the Becker property. There was a court date last week and currently all of his license plates are up to date on the vehicles on his property.
Mayor Smallwood reported that Attorney Durso had some concerns regarding the Benefit UTV ride scheduled for October 2022.
An update on the PD Golf Tournament was given. Currently there are 9 platinum sponsors, 36 hole sponsors, and 21 teams signed up.
ZONING REQUEST FOR AREA/BULK VARIANCE APPLICATION FORM – Zoning Board needs to come to us with their recommendations.
INSURANCE – It was agreed at the last board meeting to switch to Blue Cross Blue Shield from our current insurance provider. The Village will cover 100% for the employee and 100% for children. Spouses will be covered at 50% if they are not able to acquire coverage through their employer.
LIQUOR LICENSES – Various classes of liquor licenses were discussed. Surrounding municipalities liquor licenses were also discussed. Mayor Smallwood asked the Trustees to work on new ordinance language for liquor licenses and then more discussion is needed.
TREE CITY USA – Trustee Henning presented materials for everyone to read regarding this program.
Comments were made to make sure that new trees weren’t planted next to sidewalks and no sweet gum trees.
RED SHED AT THE PARK – It was agreed to keep this shed and move it down by the water well house in the park.
TRAIL STUDY GRANT – We are requesting the final report be sent to us.
Trustee Rogers made a motion which was seconded by Trustee Elbe to adjourn. All were in favor. Motion was granted. Meeting adjourned at 8:55 pm.
