This week, State Rep. Adam Niemerg took to Facebook to express his approval for Darren Bailey, a gubernatorial candidate in Illinois.
In his post, Niemerg said, "It was my pleasure to spend last week campaigning for Darren Bailey for governor."
Niemerg has been an outspoken critic of incumbent Gov. JB Pritzker in recent months, particularly his use of mandates to accomplish policy goals. In a June 4 Facebook post Niemerg said, "Power and control. Don't think for a second the mandates would not be in place had you not pushed back. The continued executive orders are all a setup to bring back masking and mandates, if, and when the governor wants."
Niemerg has also been active in the community, holding office hours at county fairs this summer to be more accessible to the public.
“We experimented with this program last year and found it very successful to be available to constituents at events they are already attending like our county fairs,” Niemerg said in a June 9 SE Illinois News report. “My staff and I will be setting up informational tables at fairs and festivals around the district to make it easier for people to stop by and ask questions about state programs, suggest legislation, or get help on issues.”
One priority for Niemerg is ethics reforms in the Illinois House of Representatives.
Recently, House Speaker Mike Madigan was indicted, according to the SE Illinois News.
"This indictment has been a long time coming and it is my hope that justice will be served in this case,” Niemerg said. “But the indictment of Mike Madigan will only matter if we take the necessary steps to root out the culture of corruption in Springfield. Punishing Madigan won’t do any good unless we enact the necessary anti-corruption reforms, we need to restore confidence in state government."
