Visitor Comments
Rotary representative Joe Judge said the sidewalk from pickleball to the bathrooms is complete. The dirt has been built up and waiting on grass seed & straw next. Jeff Guiswiete will donate his straw machine for the work.
Playground equipment for the new Kiddie land is expected to arrive early next week.
New picnic tables have arrived. They will be different colors for each zone under the pavilion. Concrete will be sanded. Rotary has decided to not do a coating due to cost increases. The old picnic tables will be donated to MCES, SMS, and other schools interested in them.
Dirt has been brought in to level the gaga ball court. Kiwanis is now raising money to do another project. They will be replacing the northwest pavilion & pouring new concrete.
The City Pool will be renovated this winter. The baby pool will be moved to the southwest side, along with a splash pad nearby. The deep end will be extended to an Olympic length. Cartridge filters will be installed. The bowl area of the pool will be epoxy sealed. The pool house will be torn down, Pool Rd. taken out, as well as half the parking lot, and we will have a tiered parking lot. Member Andrews expressed concern about the pool opening in time next year with all the construction. Mayor Judge assured it will be open. The splash pad may not be completed until July however.
Member Andrews asked about the lights on the basketball court. They are off due to storm damage. The city has an insurance claim going on the lights.
Traffic study was done in the city park by the Mt. Carmel police department. A golf cart was clocked fastest at 28 mph. Another was going the wrong way in the one-way. Other vehicles were also speeding. All were given warnings. The recommendation from the study is to put in more speed limit signs. Member Deming asked about diagonal lines being striped, like in front of shopping centers, between the park and both pickleball and basketball, since people cross in several different locations. Therefore cars are warned to drive slowly through that zone where pedestrians may be crossing. Mayor Judge said it cannot be done unless we have something it is going to, such as a walkway. Member Deming said then a path in both locations would be ideal so striping can be done, as children playing run out from in between parked cars directly into a potential moving car or golf cart.
Pickleball parking lot will be oil and chip this summer (late June/early July).
The Pickleball club would like a sign at the front of the park to help out-of-towners and first-timers locate the courts. If the club provides the sign, the city will put it up.
Chairman Meeks asked if anyone had any further comments. With none, a motion was made by member Hopper and seconded by member Deming. Alyssa motioned.
Meeting dismissed at 7:15 pm.
