New Hope Community Consolidated School District 6 Board of Education met June 21.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The New Hope Board of Education met at 7:00 P.M. in the work room of the school.

President Nate Carter called the meeting to order at 7:02 P.M.

Roll Call:

Jeremy Vaughan made a motion to approve the May 17, 2022 regular meeting minutes with no corrections noted. Second by Derek Smothers.

Nay: None Carried

Superintendent Julie Harrelson presented the Treasurer’s Report and current financial information. Bank balances as of May 31, 2022:

Fairfield National Bank Checking: $1,577,322.10

IPTIP: $948.99

Fairfield National Bank Money Market: $597,280.07

Ryan Green made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report. Second by Derek Smothers.

Derek Smothers made a motion to pay the bills with no additions or exclusions noted. Second by Jeremy Vaughan.

Mrs. Harrelson presented the Superintendent’s Report. A contractor’s meeting was held regarding the canopy and roofing projects this summer. The canopy finish date is set for October 31st but may be completed sooner. Construction on the canopy will still be in process when school starts in August. We will have to make an adjustment for student arrival and departure. The roofing project is set to begin the end of June or early July. We have received IAR test scores. New Hope’s test scores are up from last year but not yet to the level pre-COVID. As of now, cafeteria meals will go back to paid meals. However, there is a political push to keep them free for all students. Superintendent vacation will be July 6th through July 11th. Board goals set for fiscal year 2022 were included in the board packets with a brief review showing goals were met. The board will need to decide on goals for fiscal year 2023 for next month’s meeting. Registration is scheduled for July 19th from 11:00 A.M. through 6:00 P.M. and will be for all students kindergarten through 8th grades.

1. Jeremy Vaughan made a motion to approve board policy update issue 109. Second by Ryan Green.

New Business:

1. Derek Smothers made a motion to approve amended fiscal year 2022 budget. Second by Jeremy Vaughan.

Nay: None Carried

2. Ryan Green made a motion to abolish working cash fund. Second by Derek Smothers.

Nay: None Carried

3. Derek Smothers made a motion to approve handbook changes for 2022-2023. Second by Jeremy Vaughan.

Jeremy Vaughan made a motion to enter executive session at 7:22 P.M. for personnel performance, hiring, and compensation. Second by Ryan Green.

Derek Smothers made a motion to return to open session at 8:17 P.M. Second by Ryan Green.

4. Jeremy Vaughan made a motion to increase substitute teacher pay to $100 per day and $125 per day for New Hope School retirees. Second by Ryan Green.

5. Ryan Green made a motion to hire Cecily Attebery as paraprofessional/substitute. Second by Jeremy Vaughan.

6. Jeremy Vaughan made a motion to hire Anna Crews as individual paraprofessional. Second by Derek Smothers.

7. Ryan Green made a motion to approve non-certified wages for 2022-2023. Second by Jeremy Vaughan.

8. Ryan Green made a motion to pay $4,600 COVID overload stipend to Julie Harrelson. Second by Jeremy Vaughan.

Jeremy Vaughan made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:20 P.M. Second by Derek Smothers.
