Village of Smithton Committee as a Whole met July 26.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Mayor Smallwood called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm at Village Hall. Trustees Becherer, Elbe, Henning, Mourey and Hopkins were in attendance. Trustee Rogers was absent. Also present were Supervisor Dean Klein and members of the Complete Streets Committee (Joe Yoch, Linda Schramm, Joe Kulessa, and Michelle Quirin).

TRAIL STUDY GRANT – Members of the Complete Streets Committee addressed the Board in support of the walking trail. Various Grants to apply for were discussed. The Board stated that they received the final report from Gonzalez on walking trail options. This report was needed to apply for Grants. The Board will continue to work on Grant opportunities and walking trail options.

ADDITIONAL TABLETS – Chief Neff and Engineer Saeger will need tablets so they can receive electronic meeting information and packets for the meetings.

SURPLUS CAR – An Ordinance will be prepared for the sale of the Engineer’s car, the 2006 Ford Crown Victoria.

TORNADO ALARM SYSTEM – St. Clair County has a new program for replacement of tornado sirens. We have expressed interest in this program for electronic sirens. There is no fee for the Village other than the fee for the manual control box at the Village Hall. Chief Neff suggested that the poles be replaced also. This will be discussed further.

BOB CAT SKID STEER – Supervisor Dean Klein was in attendance to discuss the purchase of a Bob Cat Skid Steer.

SOUTH MAIN PROPERTIES – Engineer Saeger has presented the board with an estimate for a new sidewalk in front of the 8 and 12 S. Main properties. He is also working with IDOT.

POLICE PERSONNEL – Officers Mike Borkowski has passed his 6-month probationary period.

VILLAGE HALL SIGN – Suggestions for a sign to be placed where the fountains were was discussed.

Trustee Elbe made a motion which was seconded by Trustee Hopkinsto adjourn. All were in favor. Motion was granted. Meeting adjourned at 8:40 pm.
