Gubernatorial Candidate and Senator Darren Bailey visited the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police in Springfield before the upcoming November general election.
“We stopped by the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police in Springfield to continue the conversation about reforms in the Department of Corrections both at a state and local level,” Bailey wrote on Facebook.
The 45th United States President endorsed the Republican gubernatorial candidate leading up to the June primary election. Though, the Chicago Tribune reported Bailey doesn’t want to talk about the heavily-investigated President.
In August, Bailey was endorsed by the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police and the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #7.
On Aug. 19, he tweeted: “ICYMI: My full remarks from my endorsement press conference with the @ILFOP and @ChicagoFOP7," Bailey said in the tweet. “We will restore law and order and safety to the streets. We will restore the city of Chicago and make Illinois safe and affordable for working Illinoisans. #twill"
Bailey was under criticism after he made a controversial comment after the mass shooting event during a Forth of July parade in Highland Park, after saying to “move on” as the shooter was at large at the time. He later apologized.
Bailey has regularly called for the repeal of the SAFE-T Act.
He recently stated the SAFE-T Act:
“The SAFE-T Act is continually being fought against from all corners of our state as a radical, pro-criminal legislation," Bailey said in a statement. “Pritzker pushed this bill through without any concern for the safety of Illinois families. Pritzker failed Illinois families when he signed the SAFE-T Act into law. Repealing this terrible legislation will be a top priority for my Administration. There is nothing more important than keeping our families safe.”
Vote Smart noted Bailey voted against House Bill 4383, which requires guns to have visible serial numbers on kit parts.
“Our communities have become too accustomed to the tragedies of fatal gun violence,” Democrat Senator Jacqueline Collins said on the Illinois Senate Democrats’ website. “Keeping our most vulnerable populations safe requires a bold strategy to end the market for ‘ghost guns’.”
Bailey is the Republican nominee for Governor. He will face incumbent Pritzker in November.
