Village of Smithton Zoning Board met Aug. 22.
Here are the minutes provided by the board:
Chairman Rodriguez called the second hearing to order at 7:46pm.
Zoning Board members present were: Tom Incrocci, Tom Schanherr, Leo Simburger, Julie York, and Todd Reyling. Also present were Zoning Administrator and Engineer Scott Saeger, Chairman Lori Rodriguez, Deputy Administrator Michelle Schlarman and Attorney Carmen Durso. Zoning Board member Jesse Carlton was absent.
Deputy Zoning Administrator Michelle Schlarman read the notice as published in the Freeburg Tribune.
Chairman Rodriguezread the letter sent to surrounding residents and the list of those residents.
The applicants were sworn in by Deputy Administrator Michelle Schlarman.
Questions and discussion with the Zoning members revealed the following information: Robert Feder explained to the Board that he would like to annex a portion of his property into the Village. He would like to annex the property as Zoning A (Agriculture). He had previously annexed a 3½ acre portion in 2017, but when he recently went to St. Clair County to inquire about his taxes, he was told that he would need to annex another 1½ acres. He had built a home on the property, with only part of the house within the annexed property. He does have Village water. Feder has no wish to annex the remainder of his property.
Tom Incrocci made a motion which was seconded by Tom Schanherr that the Zoning members recommend to the Village Board that approval be granted for the approximately 1½ acre parcel of Feder’s property at 3001 S Illinois be zoned Agricultural upon annexation into the Village of Smithton. Roll call was taken: Tom Incrocci, yes; Tom Schanherr, yes; Leo Simburger, yes; Julie York, yes; Jesse Carlton, absent; Todd Reyling, yes. Motion was granted.
Attorney Durso informed The Feder’s that the approved motion will be brought before the Village Trusteesfor approval at the Village Board meeting on September 6, 2022. The annexation procedure will then continue.
The Zoning members were informed that the Trustees approved the revised application forms for Variance Requests and Special-Use Requests. The new forms will now be used.
Tom Schanherr made a motion which was seconded by Leo Simburger to adjourn. All were in favor. Motion was granted and meeting adjourned at 8:06pm.
*Addendum – On 9-6-22 the Village Trustees approved the Zoning Board recommendation that the 1½ acre portion of Feder’s property at 3001 S Illinois be zoned agricultural upon annexation into the Village of Smithton.
