State Rep. David Severin, R-Rockford, in a Dec. 14 Facebook post noted that he had the opportunity to present his nephew with an Official Illinois House of Representatives Certificate of Congratulations.

According to the post, Severin’s nephew, Marty Leffler, owns Leffler Funeral Home. According to its website, the business was opened in 1921 by Cora and Will Freeman and later owned by Maurice "Smokey" Poulson, remaining in his family until the Lefflers purchased it in 2010.

“Yesterday I was honored to present my nephew Marty Leffler with an Official Illinois House of Representatives Certificate of Congratulations celebrating 100 years of the funeral home he and his wife own,” Severin said in the social media post.

According to the funeral home website, Leffler has lived his entire life in Benton, and has been a licensed funeral director and embalmer since 1988. Leffler joined the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home that year and worked there for 15 years.

According to the House website, Severin has been a lawmaker since January 2017, and sits on a number of committees, including Judiciary, Redistricting, Criminal Administration and Enforce, Firearms and Firearms Safety Subcommittee and Sex Offenses and Sex Offender Registry, among others.

Severin served on the Benton Grade School board for more than 29 years, according to the House website.
