City of Harrisburg City Council met Dec. 1.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The Harrisburg City Council met at 8:00 a.m. in the Council Room of City Hall, Harrisburg, IL.

Mayor Pro-Tem Ron Morse called the meeting to order. Mayor Pro-Tem Ron Morse over the meeting with Commissioners Raymond Gunning, Roger Angelly and Rupert Johnson answering roll call. Mayor John McPeek was absent.

Pastor Jerry Wells from Dorrisville Social Brethren Church led the group in prayer and Pledge of Allegiance.

Commissioner Raymond Gunning made the motion to approve the consent agenda.

Seconded by Commissioner Roger Angelly. A roll call vote was taken with all present voting yes. Motion carried.

Fire Chief John Gunning stated the mobile home installation at 1118/1122 S. Washington St. was completed and passed final inspection. Commissioner Raymond Gunning made the motion to approve the damage deposit refund of $500.00. Seconded by Commissioner Roger Angelly. A roll call vote was taken with all present voting yes. Motion carried.

The City of Harrisburg did not receive any sealed bids at this time for a 2023 truck for the water/sewer department.

Mayor Pro-Tem Ron Morse opened three sealed bids for the surplus sale of a 2000 International dump truck from the Street/Alley Department. The three bids were from Jeff and Mark Malone for $1576.71, Mike Hancock for $875.00, and MC Enterprises for $2567.89. Commissioner Rupert Johnson made the motion to accept the sealed bid from MC Enterprises for $2567.89. Seconded by Commissioner Raymond Gunning. A roll call vote was taken with all present voting yes. Motion carried.

Commissioner Raymond Gunning would like to have Durham’s Hardware cleaned up so the city can begin advertising this property for sale. He believes the city will have a better chance of getting a business in there if the building was presentable. This item will be on the next agenda to begin the process of potentially getting it cleaned.

Fire Chief John Gunning presented a mobile home permit application for 311 N. McKinley Street. He stated the applicant has paid the fees and is ready to proceed pursuant to the current house being torn down and cleaned up. Commissioner Roger Angelly made the motion to accept the mobile home permit for 311 N. McKinley. Seconded by Commissioner Raymond Gunning. A roll call vote was taken with all present voting yes. Motion carried.

Mayor Pro-Tem Ron Morse stated the mayor and council needs to have a discussion regarding these mobile homes needing removed/demolished. Fire Chief John Gunning stated the issue is sticky because the county will sell the mobile home on back taxes, but the property does not sell. Therefore, attempting to get the mobile home removed involves tracking down the mobile home owner and the property owner. There needs to be a discussion with the county to help resolve this matter.

Mayor Pro-Tem Ron Morse reminded the citizens of Christmas in the Courtyard on December 01, 2022 from 4:30 to 7:30. Please keep Mayor John McPeek in your thoughts and prayers. Please stop littering.

Commissioner Raymond Gunning made the motion to adjourn. Seconded by Commissioner Roger Angelly. A roll call vote was taken with all present voting yes. Motion carried.
